Each month, the editors will select one short-short story (under 1,000 words). The winning story will grace the front page of the website for the entire month and will be listed on the Stories of the Month Page, as well as the Fiction Page. The reading fee will be $10, and the winner will receive $50 (we plan to increase the amount of the prize if we receive enough submissions, of course). We are currently getting between 15,000-20,000 visitors per month, so we're hoping the monthly award will provide writers with some much-needed visibility. Typically, the submission period will open on the first day of the month and close on the last day of the month. Stories submitted during the month of April (for example) will be judged at the end of April, and the winning story will appear throughout the month of May. We are now accepting submissions for the May award, so start sending your submissions now. Entries for the Story of the Month series should be approximately 1000 words or less. Submissions should be in doc or .pdf format. Feel free to submit multiple stories, but please DO NOT submit multiple Word documents as one submission or one text document containing multiple stories. Instead, please submit each story as a SEPARATE entry (so that you complete an individual submission process for each story). Submissions can be previously published or unpublished. Simultaneous submissions ARE welcome. All entries will be considered for publication in Fiction Southeast.
